December, 2010--Planning is now underway for the Razorback Regional Greenway, a 36-miles bike and pedestrian trail from Fayetteville to Bella Vista.  In October 2010, the greenway was awarded $15 million through the TIGER II grant program funded by the US Department of Transportation.  The Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission is hoping that up to $10 million in additional funding is available from the Walton Family Foundation.  Twenty five million dollars should be enough to build the greenway backbone from Bella Vista through Bentonville, Rogers, Lowell, Springdale, Johnson and Fayetteville.  Another $13 million is needed for amenities such as lighting, trail heads and benches which could be raised through corporate and civic donations.  A tentative completion date is December 2016.
